Since we love seasonal topics, Autumn is also the season of Apples.
They are rich in vitamin A, E, B1, B2 and B6 as well as copper and manganese. They are definitely a great addition to your 5 a day.
Apples also contain polyphenols which are known to be highly effective antioxidants.
Our little red friends also have pectin which is a type of fibre known as prebiotic promoting gut health.
You got the picture, apples are good for your health, so we highly recommend adding them to your diet.
We’ve listed 3 different ways to consume apples:
- Apple cider and honey cleansing
One of the best cleansing and detoxifying drinks.
What you need: apple cider vinegar (organic, non-pasteurised), honey (raw and local, if possible), and hot water.
Every morning for 15 days, mix 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp of honey with hot water in a mug and drink it!
It will soothe, relieve and detoxify your digestive system!
- Apple juice in the morning
Get a fresh apple juice from your local store or better, make your own! You don’t even need a juicer, here’s a recipe.
What you need: 5 pounds of apples, a bit of water and a pot to put on the stove.
Wash your apples, you can soak them in vinegar for 10 min.
Core them and remove any bad spots, you can peel them if you want but you’ll put the peel in the pot too.
Remove the stem and blossom.
Add everything to the pot, add about 5 cups of water (adjust according to the number of apples) cover and cook on medium fire for about 15 minutes.
Then, strain everything with a mesh strainer and here’s your fresh apple juice!
- Apple in our salad
Did you know apples were delicious in savoury food too?
They make a super tasty and fresh salad, we’ve prepared a very easy recipe.
What you need: 2 cups of lettuce, 2 cups of cherry tomatoes, 1 cup of cucumber, 1 fresh apple, ½ mozzarella, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey.
Chop the cherry tomatoes in half, the cucumber, the mozzarella and the apple in cubes and mix everything.
Mix the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and honey together and drizzle the dressing on top of your mix.
And that’s it, you’ve got a fresh salad, you can adjust to eating it as an appetizer or as a main course.
